Boldin has turned down Baltimore's proposal to reduce his $6 million base salary, according to USA Today Sports, so the Ravens will have to decide if they're willing to cut Boldin and his $7.531 million cap number.
If the team does release him, Boldin is prepared to become an unrestricted free agent, according to the report.
"I know how the Ravens feel about me, from a coaching standpoint, from an organizational standpoint, from guys in the locker room," Boldin told USA Today. "But sometimes the business side doesn't express that."
Boldin has been in the news since February when he told NBC Sports Radio that he would retire if the Ravens released him. "Baltimore is the only place I want to play. It's the last place that I will play. For me, I'll retire a Raven, I'm not putting on any other uniform," Boldin said at the time.
"I think he was trying to express loyalty to them," a source told USA Today. "I know that he's hoping to stay with them, but he's willing to go someplace else."
That same source doesn't see any situation where Boldin accepts a pay cut to stay in Baltimore, "Once he's decided, you might as well try to move the Rock of Gibraltar," the source said.
If the Ravens release Boldin, there's a good chance the 32-year-old will catch on somewhere else quickly. Boldin caught 65 passes for 921 yards last season, both team highs. The 10-year veteran also played a pivotal role in the Ravens' playoff run, leading the team with 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns in four postseason wins.
