As Alex Permann nailed a half-court shot during
a contest before the Missouri Valley title game on Sunday, the 24-year-old
Missouri-St. Louis optometry student jumped for joy, pumping his fists in
belief he had won the $50,000 cash
prize. However, Permann was about to get some very bad news: he hadn't followed
the rules of the contest..
Contest participants
were requires to hit a layup, free throw, 3-pointer and half-court heave in
less than 24 seconds to win. Permann performed the first two tasks before
heading straight for the half point attempt, despite both the PA announcer and
fans yelling at him not to forget the 3-point attempt.
Tournament
organizers quickly got together to discuss what just happened and came up with
the following decision: Permann won't get his $50,000 because he didn't hit all
four shots, but he'll receive tickets for life to the Missouri Valley
tournament and four VIP passes and a three-day hotel stay for next year's
event.
Permann said that
he was disappointed not to have won the $50,000 grand prize, but he was okay with
the decision. What a true. Most men would have thrown a hissy fit.
