Free agent wide receiver Donte Stallworth was hospitalized after sustaining "severe burns" when the hot-air balloon he and two other passengers were in struck power lines in South Miami-Dade, the Miami Herald reports.
According to the Miami-Dade police, Stallworth was transported to the Trauma Center at Kendall Regional Hospital where he is in stable condition. Stallworth's girlfriend was also injured, but he condition has not been disclosed. A third passenger was uninjured.
Stallworth's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says the veteran receiver should be able to resume his NFL career, ESPN.com reports.
"He's going to be OK. He has some burns, but he's going to be fine. He will be able to continue his NFL career. The injuries are not to the extent they will jeopardize his career."
Originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft, Stallworth has 321 receptions for 4,837 yards and 35 touchdowns during a 10-year career that also included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins.
Stallworth had one reception, a 63-yard touchdown, in one game during his second stint with the Patriots last season. Stallworth suffered an ankle injury on the play and was placed on injured reserve.
