Fugitive Fund Manager Stuffed Underwear With Cash
A German fugitive hedge fund manager was arrested at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence five years after fleeing the Spanish island of Mallorca with $500,000 hidden in his underpants. Florian Homm faces U.S. charges defrauding investors just like Bernie Madoff.
The Uffizi Gallery houses Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation.
Homm’s had to make the decision leave behind a life of wealth, castles and “bimbos.” Homm held a Liberian diplomatic passport as well as German and Irish passports.
Homm was an early Bernie Madoff, defrauding investors in hedge funds he controlled, causing $200 million in losses. He faces up to 75 years in prison.
